To err is human. Everyone makes mistakes. We've all heard of it. Been there, done that.

But what if you have no space for flaws? what makes you then?

I am not perfect myself. People talk about me behind my back. I talk about people behind their backs. I keep secrets and lie to people. I am lied at, and sheltered from the truth as well. You are like me too. We are all the same, if not, similar.

I find it weird that people weigh other sins as something harsher than they have ever done. You condemn the girl who doesn't wear a hijab, you scorn the people who aren't virgins, but you forget that spreading fitnah is also a sin, gossiping is also sinful, offending another human being is a sin too. You claim that you frequently read the quran, you are highly devoted to your religion, you wear a tudung, kopiah, whatever, but that doesn't give you the mandate to add your name to the 99 names of Allah so that it could become 100.

The truth is, we are all sinners. But we sin differently. We are all in this lost pilgrim where we are aching to find our way to the right path. We just need to find people who can accept who we are.

However, it doesn't justify that your sins are mitigatory. Even if everyone is doing it. It's a norm for you to sin, you're not a saint nor a prophet, everyone does that, so you should not be mocked nor discriminated just because you did something or are doing something that is against your religious beliefs. Still, the action should be condemned, but not you. We have all grown up and achieved the rational calculus where we can think for ourselves and know what's right and wrong. You can't change what's right or wrong, what's good or bad, but you are able to make your own choices. If you choose to do it, or if you believe that it is acceptable, then go ahead. There's no problem to it.

Use your ability wisely.

In the same time, it also doesn't justify that you can belittle the people who actually try hard to do good. No one can force you to pray 5 times a day or solat sunat or read the quran, sure, but if you think that people who pray to god to get something they want or overcome hard times are ridiculous, then you are no different than the people who mock sinners as if they have a spot in heaven. Some people may refrain from opting out to certain things because of religion (to name a few, from having a relationship, from smoking, from wearing whatever they want, etc) and that's perfectly fine. Our beliefs vary, you can't expect everyone to all have a high level of iman, you also can't expect everyone to have a low level of iman.

We are all imperfect human beings trying to be better each and every day. The definition of what is "better" and what is "perfect" is subjective towards the individual. My advice. Follow your heart, but use your brain.

With SPM coming up, Syasya decides to write her journey to the biggest determiner of her life. (notice the brackets in her post counting down the days to the start of it) Turning 17 two days before Bahasa Melayu Paper 1, Syasya is an ambitious girl no taller than 5 foot 3, but with dreams higher than the sky. She spends her free time reading, sleeping, writing and lepaking. Syasya's a little bit weird sometimes, but, well, she likes to be different.
